(2019 Summer Activity Grants)…They were presented this week.

The Imperial Irrigation District Board of Directors made the presentations, along with special guest Dippy Duck. They presented $16,000 in summer activity grants to 8 Imperial Valley Communities as part of the District’s water safety campaign. $2,000 grants went to the cities of Brawley, Calipatria, Calexico, El Centro, Holtville, Imperial, Westmorland and the Heber Public Utility District. The funds help make swimming pools and other activities available for children and adults to keep them busy during the hot summer months while supporting Dippy Duck’s message to stay away from canals and waterways. The IID water safety campaign has been on-going for 60 years, and with Dippy Duck as the water safety mascot for the past 53 years. This year’s water safety campaign was taken to 46 school and made 140 presentations, spreading the message to approximately 21,000 kindergarten thru sixth grade students.
