(Proposed tariffs could hurt Imperial County)…President Trump proposed a 5 percent tariff on Mexican goods.

The tariff would begin on June 10th and escalate 5 percent each month. The intent is to get Mexico to assist in stopping the flow of Central American citizens entering the United States. The County Board of Supervisors said the tariff would damage the Imperial County economy and local unemployment. County Governmental liaison Rebecca Terrazas Baxter said letters were being sent to political representatives and to the Trump Administration explaining the damage the tariffs would create. The political representatives will be encouraged to lobby the President to change his mind on imposing a tariff that would hurt local economies more than it will hurt Mexico.
