Money initially designated for troop support and other projects will be used to construct portions of the border wall.
The money will be part of an estimated $6.1 billion the Pentagon will commit to the construction of the wall President Donald Trump wants to build along the U.S. / Mexico border. About $3.6 billion will come from military construction projects and another $1 billion from military personnel budgets. The transfer of funds will delay a number of military projects. A Pentagon spokesman said that the most recent $1.5 billion would fund fence replacement in the Tucson and El Centro areas.
