(The County Board of Supervisors begin the Budget process)…The process began Tuesday by accepting a balanced budget.
The spending plan presented to the Board at their meeting this week was a working document. It was put together for presentation after the state approved a $96.3 billion balanced budget. The state’s budget has a $1.1 billion reserve. County Executive Officer Ralph Cordova said the Governor is sure to veto some items before he signs it. Cordova said once the county knows what the state spending plan is, and the County determines how much was is being carried over locally from the previous fiscal year, they can start work on the new budget. Cordova said he has set budget hearings to begin August 13. He said the County has until October 1 to submit a balanced budget. The working budget submitted Tuesday is a $353.8 million over-all spending plan. The General fund comes in at $215.8 million, with no surplus and no deficit.
