(MOU signed)...It deals with Industrial Hemp in Imperial County.

It was signed at the Board of Supervisors meeting Tuesday. The Memorandum of Understanding is between the County of Imperial, the California Hemp Foundation and the California Hemp Association. Wayne Richmond heads both the Foundation and the Association. Signing for the County was Board Chairman Ryan Kelley. Within the MOU, the parties agree to cooperate to achieve the County's economic development objectives in the hemp industry, with a focus on job creation. Before signing, Richmond said the United States is currently importing millions and million of dollars of raw hemp products from China and Canada. He said a good portion of that market could be Imperial Countys. Kelley said a Hemp festival is being planned for Imperial County in the near future. Legal issues are still being worked out on the state and federal levels for the cultivation and production of industrial hemp.
