(Tense situation ends on a positive note)….A troubled person climbed the structure tower at 5th and Broadway in El Centro Wednesday afternoon.
Police arrived and learned of the person’s desire to harm himself, crisis negotiators were called in. The area was blocked off. The officers and negotiators spent hours communicating with the person. At just before 6:30 Wednesday evening, the person agreed to come down from the tower. He was placed into custody and transported to the Imperial County Behavioral Health Services, who are equipped to deal with suicidal people. El Centro police say the officer on scene and the negotiators were patient and effective and that resulted in a positive end to a tense situation.
