U. S. Customs and Border Protection ( CBP ) officers found more than a half-ton of marijuana hidden inside a commercial trailer.
At about 4:00 p.m. Friday , March 1 , a tractor-trailer rig entered the cargo facility at the Calexico East port of entry. The truck was referred to secondary inspection where x-ray imaging noticed an anomaly in the vehicle. Further inspection led to the discovery of a false wall in the front side of the trailer. Behind the wall CBP officers discovered 1,239 pounds of marijuana with an estimated street value of approximately $370,000. The 48-year old driver , a Mexican citizen , was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations. for further processing.
