(One person drowns, another rescued)…..It happened Wednesday morning.

Border Patrol agents were patrolling near the All American Canal East of Calexico. The agents heard individuals yelling for help. The yelling was coming from the water. The agents saw a woman in distress and struggling to swim to the canal bank. The agents responded and were able to pull the woman to safety. They assessed the woman and noticed she was suffering from shock and had signs of hypothermia. Emergency Medical Services were called, and they transported the woman to a local hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The woman was able to tell agents she believed there was another person in the water that was having a hard time swimming. The El Centro Sector Border Search Trauma and Rescue Team was called in. BORSTAR divers were able to recover the body of a deceased individual a few hours later. The body was turned over to the County Coroner’s office for examination and identification. The age and nationality of the recued woman was not released.
