(Supervisors presented another symbolic check)…Tom Topuzes delivered the over-sized $1 million check.
Topuzes said the check represents sales tax paid by Tenaska Imperial Solar Energy Center South in construction and maintenance of the Solar Complex near Calexico. It was the third symbolic check presented to the County Board, for a total of $2.5 million. Topuzes told the Board the high amounts were the result of Tenaska designating Imperial County as the point of sale for goods and services, including approximately 2 million solar panels, before construction began. He said this has resulted in millions of new sales tax dollars for the Imperial County. The Tenaska Imperial Solar Energy Center South produces solar energy to sell to San Diego Gas & Electric. The energy is transported to San Diego along the Sunrise Powerlink. Topuzes says the energy exported is enough to power over 40,000 homes.
