(Long lines at the border)…They are being blamed for the air pollution in Calexico.

The County Air Pollution Control District began issuing Alert Alerts over-night Wednesday into Thursday. The Alerts were for very high levels of PM 2.5, a finite particulate matter, created mostly from vehicle emissions. Very long lines coming across the Border from Mexicali have been reported since New Year’s Day. Increased Holiday traffic has also been reported in Mexicali and Calexico. Air Quality, since the early morning hours, has been reported as Unhealthy. Residents most at risk are those with respiratory or heart disease, the elderly and children. It is recommended those at risk avoid any type of exertion and should remain indoors as much as possible until the levels of air pollution are reduced to more favorable levels.
