(Only one charged in Officer involved shooting incident)….The incident occurred last Friday in El Centro.
Sheriff’s investigators were pursuing a suspected stolen vehicle later in the morning. A traffic stop was made in a parking lot at 7th and Broadway. As the investigators approached the vehicle, the driver attempted to run one of them over before speeding away. Two shots were fired. The Sheriff’s investigators pursued the vehicle to an area near 6th and Woodward. The two occupants of the vehicle attempted to flee on foot, but were quickly apprehended. It was found that the 18 year old passenger in the vehicle suffered gunshot wounds in his torso. He was life flighted out of the county for treatment. The driver of the vehicle, 29 year old Ivan Velasquez, is now facing four charges, including attempted murder. Investigators say the 18 year old will not be charged in the incident.
