(Do something good, receive a citation)…The program is Caught Being Good.
El Centro Police are keeping an eye on the youth of the city. Every time they see them doing something good, the officer will issue a citation acknowledging the act. They will also receive a plastic token and a coupon for a treat. The act can be anything, from wearing a safety helmet, to using the crosswalk, to helping someone in need. The annual program is designed to encourage positive interaction between the young people in the community and the local police officers. It is hoped the program breaks down the fear and teaches young people not to be afraid of the police.
