(Peruvian found with a lot of cash)…Customs and Border Protection officers were conducting southbound inspections recently.
They were checking vehicles heading towards Mexico at the Downtown Calexico Port. The officers targeted a 2001 Honda Accord. The vehicle was referred to the secondary inspection area. The vehicle was inspected with the port’s imaging system. Anomalies were detected in the vehicle’s rear quarter panels. The CBP officers pulled out 15 packages from the quarter panels. The packages contained $382,749 in US currency. Anything more than $10,000 must be declared before it can leave the country. The 39-year-old South American was arrested and booked into County Jail. The vehicle and the cash were seized by the CBP.
