The Imperial County Board of Supervisors has filed an official complaint against Memory Gardens Cemetery.

The complaint was filed with the Cemetery and Funeral Bureau , an agency of the California Department of Consumer Affairs , seeking to address the deteriorating conditions of the cemetery just north of the Imperial city limits. The County claims that the owner of the cemetery is failing to meet state standards. The cemetery , the final resting place for several hundred people including many early pioneers. Trash , debris , sinking graves are just some of the issues with the grounds. The County contends that the lack of attention and maintenance of the grounds have caused substantial damage , erosion and decay.

Currently , local community members have volunteered their time , paying out of their own pockets , to improve the cemetery.
