A 52-year old Calipatria woman was arrested after she was found with two pounds of methamphetamine.
The arrest came about 1:00 A.M. Tuesday when an El Centro Police officer stopped a newer model car on Highway 111 near Aten Road. The officer had observed the car traveling at approximately 70 miles per hour in a 55 zone. The officer noticed that the occupants of the car appeared nervous and then requested a K-9 unit from the Imperial Police Department. The dog gave a positive indication for drugs and a female Border Patrol agent responded to search the woman passenger. Two pounds of methamphetamine were found strapped to the passengers upper thighs. The passenger , Isabel Sanchez , 52 , of Calipatria , was booked into Imperial County Jail for felony possession of methamphetamine for sale. Commander Robert Sawyer of the El Centro Police Department said ,"This is a perfect example of inter-agency cooperation. It's partnerships like these that allow us to provide our citizens with the quality of life they deserve." The driver and another passenger were released on the scene.
