(Waste water, face a criminal penalty)….It starts in August.
The Governor issued an emergency drought declaration in May. In making the declaration, Governor Brown said the target was to conserve 20 percent of the water being used at that time. Apparently nobody listened. Since that declaration, water usage in California increased by one percent. State officials say the drought is the worst in the state in a generation, and it should be taken very seriously. The State Water Resources Control Board has now declared certain types of water waste are a criminal infraction.. Allowing landscape watering to spill into the street, hosing off sidewalks, washing cars with a hose that does not have a shut-off sprinkler are some of the types of water waste. Violators will face a fine of up to $500. The penalties will go into affect August 1st.
