(Cause of death for a 24 year old still undetermined)….Alex Martin of Texas died in a vehicle fire on March 15, 2012.
The cause of that fire is still being argued. Border Patrol agents say Martin was spotted driving the wrong way on Interstate 8 near Pine Valley. He failed to stop, and when he turned onto Old Highway 80, a spike strip was deployed. Martin ran over the strip in his rented car, and came to a stop. A Border Patrol agent approached the vehicle, there was an explosion. Agents say the heat was intense and they were unable to get the 24 year old out of the vehicle. He died in the vehicle. After more than two years, the cause of the explosion has not been determined. The Border Patrol is now saying there is evidence Martin was involved in an arson. They say flammable materials used by the man were in the vehicle, and when the agent fired a tazer at Martin, it sparked the explosion. The family argues the spike strip compromised the vehicle’s gas tank, and the leaking gas is what exploded when the tazer was fired.
