Two separate incidents over the weekend resulted in the seizure of more than $1 million worth of methamphetamine.
On Friday afternoon , an SUV at the Highway 86 Checkpoint between Westmorland and Salton City was found with more than $665,000 worth of meth. Border Patrol agents say a 23-year old woman was driving an SUV. When she approached the checkpoint , a canine team alerted to the vehicle. A search of the SUV found 20.8 pounds of methamphetamine hidden under the vehicles rear seat. The woman , a Mexican citizen , was arrested and turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
Sunday afternoon at about 1:30 p.m. a vehicle at the downtown Calexico port of entry was found with methamphetamine valued at approximately $384,000. The meth was concealed inside a non-factory compartment under the center console. The driver , a 45-year old woman , a resident of Mexicali , was booked into Imperial County Jail.
