Padre Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn dead at 54

(San Diego Padre icon has died)….Hall of Famer Tony Gwynn passed away Monday morning.

Major League Baseball made the initial announcement. It was later confirmed by the Padre Baseball Team. He passed away at Pomerado Hospital in Poway. Gwynn had been battling cancer for several years. He was currently on leave as manager of the San Diego State Baseball Team. Gwynn played 20 years with the Padres, from 1981 through 2001. He amassed 3,141 hits and won 8 National League Batting Titles. The Padres erected a statue of the iconic hitter outside Petco Park. Tony Gwynn was 54.
