According to the Labor Market Information Division of the Employment Development Department, the April jobless rate came in at 21.6 percent, up percentage points from the March unemployment rate of 21.3 percent. 16,900 eligible workers were unemployed last month in Imperial County, 100 more than was reported in March. The April jobless rate was lower than the 24.5 percent reported during the same time last year. Unemployment for the state was recorded at 7.3 percent for April, 5.9 percent for the nation.
