(Over 15 pounds of methamphetamine seized)…Border Patrol agents made the seizure.
It occurred this week at the checkpoint on Highway 86, between Westmorland and Salton City. Agents encountered a GMC Sonoma Pickup with Baja Plates. The vehicle was referred to the secondary inspection area for a detailed search. A Canine Detection Team alerted to the vehicle’s engine compartment and firewall area. While inspecting the firewall, agents discovered an aftermarket compartment filled with 16 cellophane wrapped packages of methamphetamine. An aftermarket Global Positioning tracking device was also recovered from under the vehicle’s steering column. The meth had a combined weight of 15.39 pounds, with an estimated street value of $100,039. The 33-year-old driver, a United States citizen, was taken into custody. The vehicle and narcotics were turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration for further investigation.
