U.S. Border Patrol agents apprehended two men attempting to smuggler four foreign nationals into the U.S.
The incident occurred at about 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Highway 78 immigration checkpoint near Palo Verde. Agents questioned the six occupants of a car that approached the checkpoint. It was determined that the men in the back seat were illegally present in the United States and attempting to travel from Calexico , California to Phoenix , Arizona. The driver , a 31-year old man from Julian , California and a 17-year old juvenile passenger , both U.S. citizens , were arrested for alien smuggling. The four passengers , 3 Mexican nationals and 1 Guatemalan national , were also arrested.
