The Brawley City Council agreed this week to name El Centro Police Commander Robert Sawyer as the Cities new Police Chief. Sawyer will assume the position on a permanent basis on June 25th. Sawyer says he is submitting his two-week notice with the El Centro Police Department, and he will take 5 days off before he is sworn in as Brawley Police Chief. Sawyer has been in law enforcement a long time. He began at 16 or 17 when he joined the El Centro Police Auxiliary. In 1992 he became a reserve police officer. In 1998 he was hired  as a fulltime Police Officer in the El Centro Department. Sawyer has served as a Commander for the past 4 years.
