(Warning to parents and caregivers)…The dangers of Heatstroke increase as the summer approaches.

The Imperial County Public Health Department, Emergency Medical Services Agency, El Centro Fire Department and the California Highway Patrol have joined together to warn residence about the dangers of heatstroke. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, heatstroke is the number one killer of children, outside of car crashes. That’s why local agencies have joined together to attempt to reduce these deaths by reminding parents and caregivers about the dangers of heatstroke and leaving children in hot cars. James Pintus, EMS Coordinator says as outside temperatures increase, the risk of children dying from being left alone inside a hot vehicle also rises. He says what is most tragic is that the majority of these deaths could have been prevented. Three items are recommended; Never leave a child in a vehicle unattended, even if the engine is running and the air conditioning is on; make it a habit to look in the backseat every time you exit the car; and always lock the car and put the keys out of reach
