CHP releases report on fatal collision

(Fatal injury victim identified)…He was 62-year-old Samuel Rodriguez from National City.

Rodriguez was ejected from a 1984 Winnebago that overturned on Interstate 8. The California Highway Patrol says the incident was reported at just after 6:00 pm Monday. The Motorhome was traveling eastbound on the Interstate. East of Westside Road, the driver of the vehicle, 68-year-old Enrique Rodriguez lost control of the vehicle and it overturned on the dirt center divider. Two of the passengers were ejected. Samuel Rodriguez suffered fatal injuries. 63-year-old Maria Rodriguez suffered major injuries and was transported to Desert Regional Hospital in Palm Springs. The driver and another passenger, 55 year old Jose De Jesus Mendez were both transferred to El Centro Regional Medical for treatment of major and moderate injuries respectively. Deputy Coroner Rodolfo Barron says an autopsy will be performed on the fatal injury victim Friday to determine the exact cause of death. The CHP says the collision remains under investigation. They say there were strong gusty winds at the time.
