(The 19th Annual Imperial Valley Junior Trout Fishing Derby)…It was held Saturday, and it was a lot of fun.
Kids from all over the Valley came to Sunbeam Lake early Saturday morning. They participated in four age groups, competing for a $100 Visa gift card and a brand new fishing rod from Big 5. In the first age group, the up to 5 year olds, first place went to Santiago Munoz for the boys and Nisa Garcia for the girls. For the 6-8 year olds Michael Partridge took the top prize for the boys and Xatziry Matus was tops for the girls. In the 9-11 year old category Jadhir Vidano was number one for the boys and Isabella Dinelli topped the girls. In the final group, the 12-15 year olds, Cesar Rodriguez took the top prize for the boys and Samantha Rubin was number one for the girls. The over-all Biggest Trout was caught by Mykala Charney, who reeled a 17-inch fish. Mykala was awarded a $250 Gift Card and a brand new rod. The Annual event was again put on by the Kiwanis Club of El Centro, Imperial County and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
