($400,000 found hidden in vehicle)….The vehicle was headed to Mexico.
19 year old Manuel Eduardo Velazquez Comparan of Perris, California was driving the vehicle. Customs and Border Protection officers were conducting southbound inspections. A detector dog alerted to the rear seat of the Cobalt being driven by the 19 year old. A search was initiated, and officers found several packages of US currency hidden in the headrest and rear bumper of the vehicle. The 41 packages contained a total of $499,730 of unreported currency. Anything over $10,000 must be declared in order to leave the country. The driver was placed under arrest. He later told officers he had been paid $1,500 to cross the money into Mexico. The CBP seized the cash and booked the suspect into the County Jail.
