(It is agreed. They must work together)….Chairman of the Board of Supervisors called the special meeting Thursday.
Supervisor John Renison said it was a strategy summit to organize a campaign to push for federal funding. The funding is for the infrastructure for the expansion of the Downtown Calexico Port. The expansion had been coordinated with Mexico, but now the Mexican side is ready to open and the US side is still looking for money. Political and business representatives attended the Thursday meeting and agreed a countywide cohesiveness was need to lobby for the funding. Renison said now was the time, especially with Congressional representatives lobbying the President for the funds to be included in his 2015 budget. Strategic bullet points will be sent to business leaders and legislators to initiate a letter writing campaign. Renison said the infrastructure issue was not just a Calexico issue anymore.
