(Almost a half million dollars worth of meth seized)….The methamphetamine was found in a van Saturday.
The van had entered the Border Patrol checkpoint on Interstate 8, between Campo and Pine Valley. A 35-year-old woman was driving the van. Her passenger was her 11-year-old son. A drug-sniffing dog alerted to the van. A search by agents resulted in the discovery of 27 sealed packages of methamphetamine hidden in the gas tank of the vehicle. The meth weighed 40 pounds and was valued at almost $500,000. The woman, determined to be a citizen of Mexico, was arrested and charged with suspicion of possession of a controlled substance. The 11 year old was returned to his father’s custody in Mexico.
