County wants a united front to address National Beef issue

(Supervisors to form a committee)…The Board discussed the National Beef announcement.

The issue was added as an emergency item at their meeting Tuesday morning. They decided to form an Ad-Hoc committee to try and convince National Beef not to close their Brawley facility. The committee will be led by District 4 Supervisor Ryan Kelley. Other participants are expected to be the Brawley City Council, Imperial Irrigation District officials and members of the local Cattle Industry. The National Beef Headquarters in Kansas City announced last week they planned to close the facility April 4. If they follow through, 1,300 people will lose their jobs. The effort would also have a negative affect on the local economy, especially the Ag industry.
