(Sand Rail goes out of control, killing one)….The tragedy occurred Saturday.
The California highway Patrol says at 4:20 in the afternoon the sand rail with 4 occupants, all from Upland, California, was traveling down Oldsmobile Hill in the Imperial Sand Dune Recreation Area. The CHP says the 24-year-old driver lost control of the sand rail. It traveled down the Hill, struck a parked quad, Jeep Cherokee and a black Sand Rail. It also struck a 61-year-old man from Phelan, California. The pedestrian was transported by REACH Air Ambulance to JFK Memorial Hospital, where he succumbed from his injuries. The CHP says the incident is still under investigation.
