(Halloween is Thursday)….It will be celebrated by almost everybody. Maybe not in Imperial, since they celebrated over the weekend.
Many Hispanics are also celebrating Dia De La Muerta, or Day of the Dead. That celebration is usually November 1st. In Mexico the celebrations are at a local cemetery. San Diego State University/Imperial Valley Campus has a Dia De Los Muertos event planned for this Thursday. It will be presented in partnership with SDSU/IV, the Borderlands Institute, the Mexican Consulate in Calexico and the Instituto de Cultura de Baja California. Everybody is invited to the Dia De Los Muertos altar exhibit student competition and the Dia de Los Muertos event both October 30th and November 1st. The student competition is Thursday at 6:00 pm at the John Steppling Art Gallery and Rollie Carrillo quad at the SDSU/IV Campus. On November 1st, they will feature a community built altar, face painting, arts and crafts, live music and mini skits that highlight the history and tradition of Dia De Los Muertos. The public is invited to attend in costume. Both events are free to attend.
