(Agents seize almost 500 pounds of marijuana)…Six people are arrested.
Border Patrol agents found footprints north of the border fence 9 miles west of the Andrade Port of Entry. As the agents followed the footprints, they found several bundles of marijuana. They secured the narcotics, and then continued following the prints. The footprints led them to six smugglers, in the country illegally. Two others fled and were able to make it back to Mexico. The Border Patrol agents took the five adults and one juvenile into custody. One of the suspects said he was paid $2,000 to smuggle the marijuana across the border. Another suspect said he agreed to smuggle the narcotics in exchange for free passage across the border. The 457 pounds of marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration.
