(Emergency declaration extended)…The Board of Supervisors approved the request
. County Fire Chief Alfredo Estrada Jr. made the request Tuesday. The purpose is to continue to monitor the Mud Pot Geyser about 5 miles north of Niland. The Geyser was originally found in the early 1950’s. Lately the Mud Pots have started spreading. This concerned the Union Pacific Railroad, who has a line in that area. They have taken the lead in monitoring the situation, and plan to take action if the mud pots get too close. Cal Trans is also monitory Highway 111. Chief Estrada says the spread has slowed significantly and no populated areas are in any danger.
